Carabao Cup third round draw details as Nottingham Forest eye progress

Jul 30, 2023

Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as the Reds prepare to take on Burnley in the second round of the EFL Cup

The Carabao Cup second round takes place this week - along with the draw for the third round.

Nottingham Forest enter the competition at the second round stage, with a home tie against fellow Premier League side Burnley. The teams meet at the City Ground on Wednesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

Steve Cooper could make some changes following Saturday's 3-2 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League. Forest stunned United by going two goals inside the opening four minutes but the home side battled back to take all three points in the end.

Forest have won their only home match so far this season, triumphing 2-1 against newly-promoted Sheffield United. Chris Wood netted a late winner under the lights after Gustavo Hamer had cancelled out Taiwo Awoniyi's early opener.

The Reds will be hoping for more home comfort against another newly-promoted side in Burnley. Here is all you need to know about the draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup...

The draw will take place on Wednesday, August 30 at the end of the second-round tie between Doncaster Rovers and Everton. It is expected to take place at around 10.15pm.

Forest were among the Premier League clubs to enter at the second round. The eight teams involved in European competition enter in the third round - so that's Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Aston Villa and West Ham United.

The draw is not seeded, so Forest could be drawn against any team still in the competition. The draw has been regionalised into northern and southern sections for the opening two rounds but this will not be the case in round three.

The draw will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Football after the Doncaster vs Everton game and will be live streamed on SkyGo.
